Construction slowed to 180,000 sf of deliveries in first quarter 2018. In that same time frame, the market absorbed 596,051 sf of retail space, down from first quarter 2017.
As construction starts slow and completions take longer to come online, occupancy and rental rates are expected to level off in the short-term before picking back up later in the year, the report says.
Currently, just over 4.8 million sf of retail space is in the construction pipeline.
