FREEPORT – BASF Corp. and Yara International ASA have opened their new ammonia plant in Freeport.
The $600 million plant has a capacity of 750,000 metric tons of ammonia per year, and is located at 602 Copper Rd.
The plant, called Yara Freeport, has a long-term agreement in which Connecticut-based Praxair Inc. will supply hydrogen and nitrogen, linking feedstock costs to Gulf Coast-area natural gas prices.
