SAN ANTONIO – A quartet of San Antonio community colleges have been recognized as being among the state’s best.

Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, San Antonio College and St. Philip’s College are ranked No. 2, No. 3, No. 15 and No. 19, respectively, on BestColleges.com’s 2018 list of top 20 community colleges in Texas.

All are part of the Alamo Colleges District, which is the only community college system in Texas to place four schools on the list.

The rankings are based on several metrics, including acceptance, retention, graduation, enrollment rates and loan default percentages as a measure of graduates’ success.

The data used is from the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Educational Statistics.

The Alamo Colleges District has seen a 244 percent increase in degrees and certificates awarded from fiscal 2005-06 to fiscal 2016-17.

District officials said that record-setting improvement exceeds the state’s goals for increasing the volume of residents with at least an associate degree or certificate.
