DALLAS-FORT WORTH – The North Texas region, added the most new residents of any metro area in the country—a total of 146,238, over the year that ended in July 2017, census data released March 22, 2018 show.

That kept DFW firmly in its spot as the nation’s fourth-largest metro, though the region is catching up to Chicago.

On the list of the counties that saw the biggest gains over the year, six out of ten were in Texas.

According to the new census numbers, the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro area has about 9.5 million residents.

According to projections from State Demographer Lloyd Potter’s office, DFW’s population is expected to grow to almost 10 million by 2030.
