SAN ANTONIO – The Alamo City’s hotel industry is expected to be one of the biggest winners of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Final Four.

The industry’s collective takeaway from the marquee event could surpass $53.3 million in direct spending on hotel bookings.

That figure is based on a revised Final Four economic impact study, which projects that more than 93,000 visitors are expected to travel to San Antonio for the multi-day tournament.

The study projects that 60 percent of the ticketed and credentialed Final Four event attendees will stay at least four nights in San Antonio.

The study suggests that the final impact from the 2018 championship could far exceed the expected total of $185 million in direct spending.

“The media value of hosting this event is not counted in the analysis we did on the economic impact,” the study’s author said. “But it is, without a doubt, quite large.”

That media exposure could “encourage people to visit San Antonio in the future who may not otherwise had thought to take a trip."
