The new data from Workforce Solutions Alamo indicate that the January 2018 unemployment rate for its 13-county region, which includes Bexar, was also 3.4 percent.

That figure is identical to the unemployment rate for the San Antonio-New Braunfels metro area, which was also at 3.4 percent in January—despite the eight-county region gaining more than 20,000 new jobs since January 2017.

However, those new positions were offset in part by the loss of 5,400 positions in the trade, transportation and utilities sectors during the first month 2018.

Bexar did outperform Texas in the employment arena—the Lone Star State’s unemployment rate grew from 3.7 percent in December 2017 to 4.2 percent in January 2018.
