BROWNSVILLE – A new terminal is in the works for the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport.
A new terminal will be constructed directly in front of the existing terminal.
Construction crews began working on phase one, construction of two new parking lots and the expansion an existing one, in early 2018.
The entire project is expecting completion by 2020.
The existing terminal is to small for the projected growth and too small for agencies like Customs and Border Protection or Transportation security administration.
According to Airport Director Bryant Walker, regulations that are currently in place for agencies like CBP and the TSA did not exist when the airport was created.
