$42M for first building on RELLIS campus
BRYAN – The Texas A&M University System broke ground on its first academic building to be located on the RELLIS Campus.
Located at 3100 Texas 47, the first facility in the 112,460-sf RELLIS Academic Complex is set for a June 2019 completion.
The $42 million, three-story building will be 68,000 sf and feature faculty offices, ten classrooms, group learning and collaboration spaces, laboratories, and more.
Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer for the A&M System Billy Hamilton said if done right, the campus has potential to meet the A&M System’s goal of being "a unique venture in public higher education in the United States" by providing students with educational opportunities in "areas that would lead them to careers."
The vision to use the 2,000-acre property once known as the Bryan Air Base for the new campus is a move that enables the A&M System to make the most of the land assets it has at its disposal.
In addition to the A&M System’s academic complex, the 83,000-sf Blinn education center will open in August 2018 just in time for the arrival of the campus’ first class of students.
