(Photo: Rachel Denny Clow/Caller-Times archive)CORPUS CHRISTI – Replacement of the Harbor Bridge has cast a large shadow over another major highway construction project.

SH 358, also known as South Padre Island Dr., or SPID, will undergo a reconstruction.

The project is slated to occur and be completed along the same time frame as the Harbor Bridge.

The two projects’ combined construction means a more than 21 miles of Corpus Christi roads will be marked with crews and lane closures.

The SPID project will take on 15 miles of roadway from Leopard St. to Flour Bluff Dr., but the biggest improvements on the highway will occur from Ayers St. to Nile Rd., where most of the ramps will be reconstructed.

The Harbor Bridge calls for 6.44 miles of road involved in the project, according to the Harbor Bridge Project.

Construction on the Harbor Bridge replacement project began in 2016 and will last through 2021.
