The deal represents the city’s largest ever acquisition of open space.

The property, which the city plans to call Knapp Canyon, runs along a Northeast neighborhood on Titanic St. and Devils Tower St.

City Council approved the use of funds from the 2012 quality of life bond initiative to acquire the 366 acres at the base of the Franklin Mountains.

About 72 of the 366 acres are being donated to the city.
