The university has identified its preferred location for the new arena: a parking lot south of Mike A. Myers Stadium or an area south of Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

The RFP (request for proposal) issued details of what UT is looking for in a qualified developer.

They include:

  • experience building and running multipurpose basketball arenas and training facilities costing at least $350 to $450 million.
  • experience working with universities.
  • the ability to "contribute all or a substantial portion of the cost to develop, build and operate the new arena."
  • expected to adhere to the university’s building standards.
The university tentatively hopes to have a developer selected by September 2018.
