AUSTIN – Major lease transactions were the theme of 2017 as blue-chip tenants took down large blocks of space throughout Austin.

Fortune 500 companies including Facebook Inc., Google, Indeed and HomeAway signed sizeable office leases in the market.

With several additional large transactions in the works for 2018, including Parsley Energy’s commitment to prelease 302,000 sf downtown, the outlook for Austin is bright.

Fourth quarter 2017 ended strong with rents for Class A office space averaging $39.09 per sf, up from $36.95 per sf in 4Q 2016, according to Cushman & Wakefield’s Austin Office 4Q 2017 report.

The report also stated job growth continued to outpace national averages—2.7 percent compared with 4.1 percent nationally.
