SHERMAN – SunEdison Inc. sold its high-tech facility in Sherman for $20 million.
The 700,000-sf plant (the former MEMC building) will begin shipping in second half 2018.
Its output will make Sherman the VCSEL (vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers) capital of the U.S.
Finisar will soon start hiring 500 highly skilled workers (engineers, technicians and manufacturing teams) and Bruce Armstrong, born and raised there, is busy getting the building ready.
Finisar, a manufacturer of VCSELs that power some of Apple’s most popular new features, will be occupying the plant.
Apple is helping Finisar open this facility by awarding laser manufacturer $390 million from Apple’s $1 billion Advanced Manufacturing Fund—which is used to support innovation and job creation by American manufacturers.
