JOHNSON CITY – Crews with Pedernales Electric Cooperative will spend the holidays completing 15 community solar farms in the Hill County west of Austin.
The solar farms will allow the Johnson City-based cooperative business to generate some of its power from within its 8,100-square-mile service area.
The farms are spread across the Hill Country, with the largest in Johnson City and others in places such as Bertram.
Once completed and commissioned in February 2018, the farms will produce up to 15 megawatts of green energy annually.
Because the electricity generated will be produced within PEC's service area, the cooperative will also avoid transmission costs.
