​​​The land donated by the Bonham Family of the Rio Grande Valley.DONNA, HIDALGO COUNTY – A local citrus growing family in the Rio Grande Valley is donating 14 acres for a project run by the Diocese of Brownsville.

The development, to be called Plaza Amistad, will be just west of Salinas Blvd., north of Donna.

The project will include a health care clinic, an education center, retail stores, a café, recreational sports such, a community garden, a hiking and walking trail, a farming field school and a farmer’s market.

If Plaza Amistad proves a success, the diocese will look to replicate it in other areas.
