U.S. – The U.S. Department of Defense opened its online shopping mall version of The Army & Air Force Exchange Service in time for the holiday shopping season for all veterans.

The website has been around since 1997 but previously only active-duty service members, retirees with at least 20 years of service and their dependents could shop online.

The Exchange opened the online store to all eligible veterans and was ranked among major retailers by WalletHub for discounts during Black Friday.

An early pilot with 24,000 new veteran shoppers generated $5.6 million in sales between April and November 2017.

There are more than 2,700 physical locations across 36 countries of the retail outfit—which is still only open to some veterans.

The Exchange describes itself as the 56th largest retailer in the U.S. and reported revenue of $8.3 billion with net income of $384 million during 2016.
