FORT STOCKTON, PECOS COUNTY – MMEX Resources broke ground on a crude distillation unit just northeast of Fort Stockton, kicking off a $450 million project to build the first new refinery in the U,S. in more than 40 years.
CEO Jack Hanks said the 10,000-barrel per day crude distillation unit is expected to be commercially operational by the end of 2018.
Once complete, the crude distillation unit will be able to produce fuel oils, the gasoline ingredient naphtha and a form of diesel that has too much sulphur to be used in vehicles but has other applications.
