Austin skyline then and nowAUSTIN – A recent list by loan-comparing site Magnify Money ranked Austin the No. 1 most changed city in the past ten years.

In compiling the list, the site looked at nine elements of local change: commute times, building permits, median age, employment, income, housing prices, rent, crime rate and recent moves.
According to the site, reasons Austin was ranked No. 1 on the list include the fact that the city has the fastest job growth in the nation; 60 percent of its residents have moved since 2010; and it’s seen a 54 percent increase in house prices in the past ten years, more than any of the other ranked cities.
Austin isn’t the lone changing star in Texas, however.
Dallas came in at No. 2, Houston No. 3 and San Antonio No. 8.
As Austin, a city especially attached to its unique (weird) culture faces ongoing gentrification, a massive city code overhaul and continued exponential growth, its residents continue to feel the (not always positive) effects of change, too.
