A rendering of the Harlingen Convention Center.HARLINGEN – Work on the $16.7 million convention center at the corner of Teege Ave. and Brazil Rd. is underway.

Early October 2017, surveyors staked out the eight-acre site’s boundary lines and crews began clearing the site.

Once the site has been cleared and raised, crews will lay the concrete pads for the 44,436-sf convention center along with a 623-space parking lot.

The city purchased the eight-acre site for $2.7 million in 2015.

In addition, San Antonio-based developer BC Lynd will build an attached 150-room Hilton Garden Inn on an adjacent two-acre site.
