LONGVIEW - Longview area realtors and home builders are optimistic after a strong end to what they said was a successful 2014.

Area home sales jumped more than 7 percent in 2014 from a year earlier, according to data from the Longview Area Association of Realtors.

Home building within the city, however, appeared to continue to slow as activity moved outside Longview, where it’s more difficult to track.

The City of Longview reported 115 homes built valued at $21.7 million in 2014, down from 158 homes valued at $25.5 million in 2013.

“There’s less places to build inside the city limits than in the past,” said Jeff Ramsey, broker/owner of Ramsey Realty Group, whose firm represents a number of builders in the area. “There is a lot of new development going on outside the city limits right now.”

The Longview area also should benefit from liquified natural gas export facilities opening up across the border in Louisiana, he said.

The Longview Area Association of Realtors reported 2,290 existing home sales in 2014, up more than 7 percent from 2,138 sold in 2013. Total volume in 2014 was $371 million, compared with $347.9 million in 2013.
