DALLAS – Dallas County officials have chosen Centurion American Development Group to acquire the former Cabana Motor Hotel for $8.1 million.

The Farmers Branch-based developer plans to redevelop the ten-story, 357-room hotel at 899 N. Stemmons Fwy. and bring it back to its former glory. It will also build a 20- to 22-story residential tower atop a parking garage on an adjacent plot.

The redeveloped Cabana hotel will have 250 rooms, a 10,000- to 12,000-sf nightclub, two restaurants totaling upward of 6,000 sf apiece, and a ballroom with some shop space.

Developer Jay Sarno built the luxury hotel in the 1960s for $6 million. In 2015, Preservation Dallas added the building to its endangered building list.

Last year, Circa Capital Corp. also put the mid-century modern hotel under contract, with plans to convert it back into a hotel. Prior to that, Lincoln Property Co. wanted to redevelop the property into an urban data center. Both deals fell through.

The Centurion deal is slated to close Nov. 15, with construction expected to start as early as mid-2018.

CBRE marketed the property. Merriman Anderson/Architects is expected to be the project architect.
