The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs awarded developers MRE Capital more than $3 million in federal tax credits to help fund the renovation of the nine-story Baxter Building.

The developer plans to turn the building, located at 106 South A St., into a 24-unit apartment development largely made up of low-income units.

As part of the project, they will restore the 1927 office building to its original condition.

Mayor Boswell has called the renovation project critical to the continued revitalization of the downtown area.
