​​​​​Picture of a home in LongviewLONGVIEW – The number of permits issued for construction of new homes tumbled 44 percent in August from a year ago, but their average values increased 13 percent.

The ten permits for single-family homes issued last month was down from 18 issued in August 2016. 
Their average value, however, was up to $156,787 from $136,111 a year ago.
Monthly permit totals slid from a high of 16 in March to four in July before bouncing back in August.
