NEW BRAUNFELS – The Comal County sheriff's office at 3005 W. San Antonio St. is being renovated.
The $63 million redo will remove the interior jail and replace it with additional rooms and offices.
The old 300-bed jail will be replaced by a $53 million building on 11.6 acres behind the current site facing the I-35 Frontage Rd. The facility will have 589 beds and space to increase to 900 beds.
Work will start later this year and is expected to take 30 months with delivery in spring 2020.
Yates Construction and Sundt Construction are general contractors. Dallas-based HDR Architecture and Bulverde-based LD Architects are designing the facility.
The project is funded by a 2015 bond initiative.
