EL PASO - Los Angeles area-based Douglas Steel Supply plans to open a 60,000-sf facility in East El Paso this month to supply steel sheets and small coils to manufacturers in El Paso, Juárez and other areas.

This year the company plans to hire seven to nine people and invest $3 million in equipment. It will employ 55 people within the next five years.

The company plans to sign a lease for a warehouse facility in Butterfield Industrial Park, located on El Paso International Airport land.

The company buys 20,000- to 40,000-pound coils of steel and then uses equipment to turn them into sheets and small coils that can be used by metal stampers and other manufacturers.

The company plans to have its warehouse open by late February, and its steel processing equipment operating later.

The company has several customers in Juárez that it has been serving from its Los Angeles headquarters, where it employs about 90 people.
