WASHINGTON – The Dallas, Houston, and Austin metros are on pace to build nearly 130,000 new homes in 2017, according to Trulia. (Editor’s note: This figure includes multifamily as well as single-family home permits. Real Estate Center data indicate that, if the current trend continues, single-family building permits for Dallas, Houston, and Austin will total just over 95,300 by the end of 2017.)

These three markets make up over 10 percent of expected new construction in the U.S. this year and are all in the top five for permitting acivity, along with New York and Pheonix.

Austin is also the fastest-growing new home market in the nation, relative to the historic norm. The area is set to add almost 30,000 new homes this year—more than double the historic norm at 108 percent.
