Top 20 cities construction starts first half 2017

​​​​DALLAS-FORT WORTH – The metropolitan area commercial and multifamily construction retreated 29 percent during first half 2017, following a very strong first half 2016.

During first half 2017, commercial building was down 10 percent from its corresponding 2016 amount, although the current year did see groundbreaking for two large projects in Fort Worth​.

Multifamily housing during first half 2017 experienced a more severe decline, falling 57 percent, despite the start of several large projects.

Austin, Houston, and San Antonio saw a 2 percent increase, 14 percent increase, and 5 percent increase respectively in commercial and multifamily construction.​
