DFW, Houston rank in top five hottest multifamily markets
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston ranked first and second, respectively, in apartment construction, according to RENTCafé.
In 2017, 24,960 apartment units are expected to deliver in DFW, a 61 percent increase from 2016, when around 15,500 new units were developed.
In Houston, 17,960 apartments are projected to hit the market.
The two metros are behind only New York, where 26,739 new units are expected to deliver in 2017.
Austin (No. 13) and San Antonio (No. 14) also landed in the top 20, with an estimated 7,435 and 7,422 units delivering this year, respectively.
According to RENTCafé’s sister division, Yardi Matrix, the national apartment market is recording new highs in unit deliveries. In 2017, apartment completions are expected to top 345,000, up 21 percent from the more than 285,000 units delivered last year.
