UHV VP for Administration and Finance looks around the former MallVICTORIA – University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church officials announced the purchase of the former Town Plaza Mall.

The university used $1.9 million in capital construction bonds to acquire 132,000 sf of the former mall—at 1502 E. Airline Rd.—from the church.

UHV's Regional Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development Center will relocate to the site.

Preliminary plans for the rest of the building include:

  • lab space,
  • training classrooms,
  • Dalkey Archive Press,
  • climate-controlled record storage and book storage for Dalkey Archive Press, and
  • the new University Commons.

Some construction will begin late fall 2017 or early spring 2018, and enough of the structure will be removed to separate the church's portion and the university's portion.
