Houston hotel market construction remains strong

​​​HOUSTON – Even though the Super Bowl—a recent driver of new lodging in Houston—has come and gone, the Bayou City is still one of the top markets for hotel rooms under construction.

There are 4,993 hotel rooms under construction right now in Houston, which is a 3.5 percent increase in building compared with a year ago, according to a press release from hotel research company STR.

That is more than some major tourist destinations—Denver; Las Vegas; Washington, D.C.; and Chicago.

Just after the Super Bowl wrapped up in February, the Houston Business Journal reported that there were still 5,200 hotel rooms set to deliver in 2017.​​​​
