BRYAN - The first step toward a second Brazos County campus of Blinn College came with the purchase of 94 acres in Bryan. The purchase price was $3.8 million for the land at the intersection of FM 2818 and Leonard Rd.

The land will be developed into a 10,000 to 15,000 student campus.

The campus will complement the existing Bryan campus on Villa Maria Rd.

Once functional, the new campus will provide space for Blinn to develop additional space for science, technology, engineering and math courses as well as expand its workforce, research and health-related programs.

Blinn expects to break ground on the acquisition this year and could open for classes by 2017.

The future campus site's placement will allow 1,100 students enrolled in the Blinn TEAM Program who commute to Texas A&M to be able to travel state highways as opposed to city streets.

The City of Bryan expressed its support to Blinn in their new endeavor, highlighting the property's access to Villa Maria, Highway 47, Highway 21, Raymond Stotzer Parkway, the Texas A&M Biocorridor and Health Science Center, and the main campus of A&M.
