Killeen’s new schools to district
KILLEEN – Although the school year is over for many Central Texas districts, the work continues on two new Killeen schools.
A new elementary and middle school will welcome students within the Killeen Independent School District when classes start again on Aug. 28, 2017.
The Alice W. Douse Elementary School on Rebecca Lynn Dr. will hold 1,050 students, and the Roy J. Smith Middle School on Brushy Creek Dr. will be home to 1,250 students.
Crews are finishing landscaping, and work on interior walls and floors.
Teachers will settle into the new schools at the end of June and beginning of July.
Both facilities will provide relief to existing schools that are overpopulated.
Crews started construction on both new schools in 2016.
