AMARILLO – Xcel Energy christened its new downtown office building with the company’s annual shareholders meeting marking the latest step in the company’s surge into the future.
The $42 million building—owned by SunTrust Banks real estate investment group—was built to be leased to Xcel for the next 20 years. More than 300 employees are expected to move in within days.
With 15 to 20 sparkling conference rooms and a three-story parking garage flanked by businesses such as Jimmy John’s, spokesperson Wes Reeves said he expects to host more visitors and poach millennial professionals from Texas’ larger markets. “Younger workers have different expectations of the way a workplace should look and feel, and part of that is these collaborative-type spaces,” Reeves said.
