HOUSTON – Houstonians are interested in purchasing homes on six lake markets across Texas, according to a new report.
Lake Homes Realty recently published its 2017 spring market report, which found that Houstonians represent the second largest lake homebuyer demographic in Texas—second only to Dallasites.
“Texas people like Texas lakes. Most Houston lake homebuyers stay within within a four-hour drive where you can get to and back on weekends," said Brian Cauble, director of market engagement at Lake Homes Realty.
Waterfront homes are the most expensive, followed by lakeview and lake access homes, Cauble said. Most Houston buyers are looking for a vacation home on a lake where they can boat, play watersports and fish.
Below are the top four of the six hottest lake home markets for Houston buyers, according to Lake Homes Realty.
Lake Livingston: Lake Livingston is located about a 90-minute drive north of Houston.
The lake’s ample inventory and relative affordability (only 5 percent of listings are more than $700,000) makes it the most popular lake for Houstonians, according to Lake Homes Realty.
Lake Conroe: Lake Conroe is located about an hour’s drive north of Houston.
The lake features homes with a wide range of prices, from less than $350,000 to more than $1 million.
Canyon Lake: Canyon Lake is located about a three to four-hour drive from Houston in the north San Antonio market.
Considered one of Texas’ hidden gems, the lake is one of the most affordable lake markets in the Lone Star State.
Lake Travis: Lake Travis is located within a three-hour drive from Houston in the Austin area. As the largest lake market in Texas, Lake Travis commands nearly a fifth of lake home activity in the state.
