​​​DALLAS-FORT WORTH – Construction starts in the DFW area fell by 21 percent in first quarter 2017 compared with year-ago levels, according to a new report by Dodge Data & Analytics.

The biggest share of the decline was in starts for nonresidential construction. Commercial starts fell by 42 percent in the first three months of the year.
Residential building starts were down 8 percent from first quarter 2016.
Even with the declines, builders began more than $4.2 billion in projects during the quarters.
