​​​​​​CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas State Aquarium, located at 2710 N. Shoreline Blvd. on North Beach, will celebrate its grand opening of the Caribbean Journey on May 13, 2017.

At 71,000 sf, Caribbean Journey will more than double the Aquarium's indoor exhibit space.​

Here is what you can expect when your Caribbean Journey starts:

  • 400,000-gallon H-E-B Caribbean Sea shark habitat
  • top floor view of the Corpus Christi Bayfront
  • Whataburger 100-seat 4D Theater—the only one in South Texas
  • 68-foot acrylic tunnel—the largest of its kind in North America
  • conservation and wildlife rehabilitation programs

Some of the new exotic species will include:

  • ​​​Reef Sharks
  • Caribbean Flamingos
  • Linnaeus's two-toed sloth
  • Keel-billed toucans
  • … and more

The economic impact of the new journey includes:

  • $69 million estimated overall economic impact;
  • 725 jobs;
  • $20 million in salaries;
  • $10 million in hotel room sales;
  • $5 million generated for local taxing districts.
