DFW – Another study has placed North Texas in the company of some of the largest tech hubs in the country when it comes to tech sector employees.

The Metroplex employed 209,568 people within the tech industry in 2016, up about 3,000 jobs from the year prior, according to a new report called “Cyberstates” by the Computing Technology Industry Association.
That places DFW in seventh for tech employment.
In Texas, Dallas tops each of Houston (135,974 tech jobs), Austin (113,176), and San Antonio (35,200) by a significant margin. Overall, Texas ranks second when it comes to tech sector employment, with 592,960 jobs.
The state added 11,060 tech jobs in 2016, putting it fourth for tech job growth even with a net loss of nearly 2,200 tech jobs in Houston.
By one indicator of future tech growth, Dallas is again leading the way by a hefty margin. CompTIA says there were 21,384 postings for DFW tech-occupation jobs in the fourth quarter of 2016.
That figure compares favorably to Houston (7,460 4Q job openings), Austin (6,908) and San Antonio (3,350).
It also places Dallas ahead of Silicon Valley’s San Jose (18,143)—although still well short of Washington D.C. and New York City, which each topped 40,000 openings during the quarter.
