HOUSTON – Bankrate.com released a new report recently that ranked the best and worst states to retire.

Texas ranked No. 23—near the middle of the Bankrate’s 50-state list.

Texas isn’t the best state to retire in, but that hasn’t stopped developers from building a slew of active-adult communities across Houston.

Some of Houston’s newest active-adult community developments are listed below.
  • Del Webb The Woodlands opened earlier this year, and was developed by PulteGroup Inc.

  • Bonterra at Cross Creek Ranch also opened, and was developed by Taylor Morrison Home Corp.

  • D’Agostino Cos. and Slate Real Estate Partners are planning to build a 120-unit active-adult apartment in Conroe, north of Houston.

  • North Gulf is planning to build a 160-unit active-adult apartment in Riverstone, southwest of Houston.
