WICHITA FALLS – Plans for a full-service hotel and conference center at the Multi-Purpose Events Center continue to move forward.

It's a project that, if realized, will make Wichita Falls a more appealing location for conferences and conventions.

Deputy City Manager Jim Dockery said everything continues to fall in place for the roughly $28 million public-private venture between the city and Gatehouse Capital.

The 150-room hotel, a DoubleTree by Hilton, would include a full-service restaurant and lounge, indoor/outdoor swimming pool and 10,500-sf conference center.

If the project continues to progress, construction should begin summer 2017.

According to plans, the hotel will be constructed in the parking lot closest to the main entrance of the MPEC's Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall and Kay Yeager Coliseum.

The hotel and conference center is expected to open in fall 2018.
