Zachry’s $200M Hemisfair development OK’d
SAN ANTONIO – A mixed-use development is headed to Hemisfair that is expected to funnel roughly $200 million in private investment into the 1968 World’s Fair site.
The San Antonio City Council approved the project.
The vote will reshape a major downtown area by clearing the path for Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corp. to immediately begin working with Zachry Hospitality on a five-acre project that could draw the interest of more potential investors.
The approved project will include a 200-room hotel and a 385-unit residential development.
It also includes 50,000 to 70,000 sf of retail space and up to 120,000 sf of office space that is expected to be roughly $200 million in private investment.
The city will contribute up to $18 million for the project and control over half of the parking spaces in the 800-space parking garage.
Zachry Hospitality will immediately begin working on the project and plans to designate 52 percent for park land.
Of the remaining 48 percent of the land, 66 percent will be set aside for the residential development and 25 percent will be dedicated for office and retail development.
