HOUSTON – Houston mirrored the nation in a new analysis of how long it takes to break-even on buying a house.

The amount of time, calculated in Zillow’s Breakeven Horizon report at one year and 11 months, represents the point at which buying is more cost effective than renting.
The report factors in things such as expected rent increases, price-to-rent ratios and interest rates.

The break-even point for Houston homebuyers is six months longer than it was a year ago.
