​IRVING, RICHARDSON – Data center giant Equinix Inc. has decided to acquire 29 data centers from Verizon Communications Inc. in a $3.6 billion deal, which includes data centers in Irving and Richardson.

In all, the deal is expected to add 2.4 million sf of gross data center space to Equinix’s global footprint that, upon completion, will total 17 million sf of space throughout the Americas, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific markets.
The deal will also bring about 250 Verizon employees working in the data centers in the portfolio under the Equinix umbrella.
The all-cash deal is expected to close by mid-2017.
