Boost in the Basin, one ‘shale’ of a comeback

​​​​PERMIAN BASIN – The EIA’s Drilling Productivity Reportshows the number of active rigs in the Permian, which spans a large swath of West Texas.

The chart below shows that there are nearly as many active rigs in the Permian as there are in the rest of the U.S.—both onshore and offshore—combined.

The next chart shows exactly how productive those rigs have been. The EIA says the Permian is the only region in the report where crude oil production is expected to increase for the third consecutive month.
