That ranks the Bayou City No. 3 for the average daily number of jobs added between September 2006 and September 2016 out of 106 U.S. metros that have more than 500,000 residents. Houston ranks just behind the New York City (No. 1 with 224.01 jobs) and Dallas-Fort Worth (No. 2 with 152.04 per day), according to the data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The time period between September 2006 and September 2016 was volatile (to say the least), encompassing the economic bubble, followed by the Great Recession, the long subsequent recovery and the current oil downturn. Yet Houston still managed to add more than an average of 100 jobs a day.
