CALALLEN, CORPUS CHRISTI - Calallen ISD submitted plans to the city’s Development Services department late last month for a 42,000-sf covered multipurpose building for the football team, band and other school groups.

The facility will have garage-type doors and large fans that will be opened and operated to provide air circulation.

There will be a 70-yard section of turf marked like a football field.

There will also be heaters for winter usage, but air conditioning is not included.

According to Bill Monroe, the director of purchasing and risk management for Calallen ISD, the price tag is about $3.1 million, and it is being paid for using bond money designated for activity areas at the school.

There will not be any lockers, dressing rooms or restrooms in the building, and the exact policies for who will be able to use the facility when it’s not in use by designated school groups have not been established, Monroe said.
