AUSTIN - The Texas capital ranks as the top vacation destination in the Southwest U.S., according to a J.D. Power report.

Nationwide, Austin ranked No. 2, behind only Las Vegas, getting high marks for its “infrastructure and activities.”

Those rankings matter, the new J.D. Power's Destination Experience Satisfaction Study claims, because higher scores typically equate to visitors spending more money.

Visitors spend, on average, $1,169 each vacation, according to J.D. Power. That works out to about $301 per day.

The report found that figure goes up dramatically, though, when visitors have an enjoyable vacation experience. Those visitors spend an average of $1,446 per vacation—24 percent more than average.
