DENTON - With new construction by WinCo Foods and a major expansion by Peterbilt Motors Co. in the past year, Denton’s economic development is on a roll.

WinCo is building an 850,000-sf distribution center and cold storage facility in western Denton.

The $130 million project by the employee-owned grocery chain is large enough to supply 25 to 35 stores and will open with about 165 employees.

Peterbilt also completed an expansion to its manufacturing facility and construction of a new 102,000-sf facility just north of the plant, which will provide more capacity for production and testing.

Denton, with a 2015 population of 131,044, has grown 12.7 percent over the past five years, ranking it the fifth fastest-growing city of more than 50,000 people in North Texas in that period.
