MONTROSE – As it seeks to build a new grocery store in the now-dry part of the Heights, documents show that H-E-B has signed a lease for property along the Washington Corridor, as well.

The location at the southeast corner of Washington Ave. and Heights Blvd. would be part of what appears to be a larger mixed-use development proposed for the site, according to the lease.

In an interview with the Chronicle, H-E-B’s Scott McClelland said the Texas grocer would like to have multiple stores in this part of town, citing the area’s growing population density.

McClelland, who runs the grocer’s Houston region, said ideally there would be stores on Washington Ave., Garden Oaks and in the Heights.

The lease outlines plan for a 97,686-sf grocery store with a parking garage, along with office space and apartments.

The owner of the property is listed as BKR Memorial II LLC, according to the lease, which was signed at the end of May and recorded in the Harris County clerk’s office.
