WACO - The hospitality industry continues to create jobs in the market, which saw its September 2016 unemployment rate dip from August 2016 according to figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The jobless rate for the Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes McLennan and Falls counties, was 4.3 percent.

The local economy created an estimated 2,500 new jobs within the past year, with 900 in the leisure and hospitality category that includes lodging establishments and restaurants, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its report.

Besides leisure and hospitality’s 900-job increase the past 12 months, the Waco MSA has enjoyed growth in education and health services (600 new jobs); manufacturing, professional and business services, and trade, transportation and utilities (300 new jobs each); and construction and financial activities (100 new jobs each).
