BROWNSVILLE - More than 44,000 jobs and $3 billion in annual state economic activity were attributed to maritime business at the Port of Brownsville in 2015, according to a study commissioned by the port.
The study reports nearly 8,000 Rio Grande Valley workers are employed by activities of the port directly, or through indirect or induced jobs.
Of the total economic activity at the port, $580 million in revenues were earned by local business supplying cargo and vessel handling services at the port.
Another $2.1 billion represents the value of the output to the State of Texas created by the movement of port cargos.
revenues attributed to port activities also topped $164 million in 2015.
